Heedless Resurrection
Unofficial Riftbound rulings for Heedless Resurrection, with rules explanations, examples, and Core Rules citations.
If Heedless Resurrection is countered, is the killed unit returned?
No. Killing a friendly unit is an additional cost paid while playing Heedless Resurrection. Countering the spell later does not refund that cost, so the killed unit is not returned.
Can I kill a unit with Heedless Resurrection's cost and then resurrect that same unit?
No. You choose a unit already in a trash before you kill a friendly unit to pay Heedless Resurrection's additional cost. The unit you plan to kill is still on the board when the resurrection target is chosen, so it cannot be that target.
In the formal play sequence, the resurrection target is selected during step 2 and must be legal then. The kill cost is paid during step 4, after the target choice has already been locked in.
Does Heedless Resurrection's "ignoring its cost" instruction also ignore the resurrected unit's additional costs, such as Accelerate?
No. "Ignoring its cost" only sets the resurrected unit's base energy and power costs to zero; additional costs are not waived.
When Heedless Resurrection instructs you to play a unit from the trash "ignoring its cost," that instruction sets the resurrected unit's base energy cost and base power cost to zero. Additional costs, such as the optional Accelerate cost, are applied in a separate step after the base cost is zeroed out and are unaffected by the instruction. If the resurrected unit has an optional additional cost you may choose whether to pay it; if it has a mandatory additional cost you must pay it.
If Heedless Resurrection gains Repeat, do I need to kill a friendly unit for each repetition?
No. You pay the additional cost to kill a friendly unit once while playing Heedless Resurrection. Repeat executes the spell's effect instructions additional times during resolution, but the spell is still played only once. It therefore does not repeat the earlier kill cost.
