Seraphine, Not Alone
Unofficial Riftbound rulings for Seraphine, Not Alone, with rules explanations, examples, and Core Rules citations.
Can Seraphine, Not Alone survive combat damage that becomes lethal when other exhausted units die in the same combat?
Yes, if Seraphine does not have lethal damage when the combat cleanup checks her while those other exhausted units are still on the board. The cleanup checks all units for lethal damage only once, so damage that becomes lethal after those units leave does not kill Seraphine during that cleanup.
Three-Recruit Sequence
Suppose Seraphine has 3 damage marked and gets +3 might from three other exhausted 1-might Recruit tokens, each with 1 damage marked. She therefore has 4 might.
Lethal-damage check: Seraphine's 3 marked damage is less than her current 4 might, while each Recruit's 1 marked damage equals its 1 might. Only the Recruits have lethal damage during the check, so the cleanup kills them and not Seraphine.
Once the Recruits leave the board, they are no longer exhausted units for Seraphine's ability to count. Her continuously evaluated might bonus therefore drops from +3 to +0, returning her to 1 might. Her 3 marked damage is now lethal. That cleanup does not check her again.
Combat healing: The combat special cleanup next heals all units, clearing Seraphine's marked damage.
The Recruits' departure causes another cleanup after the combat cleanup finishes. Seraphine has no marked damage when that cleanup checks for lethal damage, so she survives.
