Repeat
Unofficial answers about the Repeat mechanic in Riftbound, with examples and Core Rules citations.
When do I decide whether to pay for Repeat?
Decide separately whether to pay each Repeat cost while making the relevant choices as you play the spell or ability. Each cost can be paid only once. For every Repeat cost you choose to pay, make any required choices for its additional execution during that same step. Those choices can be the same as or different from the choices for the initial execution. After that step, the decisions and choices cannot change unless a spell or ability instructs otherwise.
Opponents cannot respond while you make these choices or pay the costs because finalization does not pass priority.
Example
When playing Blood Rush, if you pay its Repeat 1 cost, choose one unit for the initial execution and one for the additional execution. You can choose the same unit or different units. Both choices are locked before you pay the spell's cost.
What does Repeat repeat?
Each Repeat cost you pay makes the spell or ability execute its instructions performed during resolution one additional time. It does not play the spell or ability again or create another chain item. The play steps and costs are not repeated because only resolution instructions execute again.
You choose targets, modes, and other required decisions separately for each execution. The choices for an additional execution can differ from those for the initial execution.
What happens if a spell with Repeat is countered?
If a spell with Repeat is countered, neither its initial execution nor any additional execution happens because the spell does nothing, and its paid Repeat costs are not refunded because countering refunds no paid costs.
